Ryan Williams, Isaiah Horton, Red Morgan are not the only current Alabama football players training with former Crimson Tide names for the upcoming season.
Wilkin Formby, a redshirt sophomore, enters his third year in the program.
2nd-year Alabama RB details how he models his style after Derrick Henry
He was one of the top offensive linemen and in-state prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle from Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The 6-foot-7, 322-pounder played nine matchups in 2024, including two as a starter versus Western Kentucky and South Florida.
He graded out at 82 percent on assignments against the Hilltoppers, recording four knockdown blocks (34 snaps) while not allowing a sack, quarterback pressure, or quarterback hit.
Formby encountered struggles versus South Florida — despite totaling seven knockdown blocks — which led to Elijah Pritchett filling in for him in the fourth quarter.
He endured unfair criticism, yet Formby bounced back in a marquee way.
Ryan Williams says Alabama is ‘killing an ant with a sledgehammer’ in facing Vanderbilt
He played some of his best football against Louisiana State University (LSU), setting up key blocks for Jalen Milroe’s multiple touchdown runs. Formby had a good spring as he received compliments from the coaching staff on his growth and development. The offensive staff wants him to pop at right tackle, regardless of the program bringing in Arkel Anugwon — a transfer from Ball State — to compete with him. He has been training with Scott Lashley, a former Tide offensive lineman, to have a dominant season in the fall. Lashley came to Alabama as a four-star from Mississippi in the 2016 signing class. He was a two-time Southeastern Conference Champion (2016, 2018) and College Football Playoff National Champion (2017) before transferring to Mississippi State and ultimately becoming a private coach for linemen.
