Jalen Milroe is turning heads for Seahawks as GM calls him ‘special’

Russell Wilson guided the franchise to a Super Bowl Championship in 2013 as a former third-round selection, but the Seattle Seahawks are very excited about its future at quarterback.

It rolled the dice on a former Southeastern Conference Champion, taking Jalen Milroe from the University of Alabama in the third round (No. 92 overall) of this NFL Draft. The explosive athlete was a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide in 2023 and 2024. He posted 39 touchdown passes, 32 rushing touchdowns, 5,678 passing yards, and 1,257 rushing yards in two seasons.

Milroe has to improve his passing mechanics — in terms of showing consistency in hitting short to intermediate routes — and read defenses better, but Seattle is energized by the personality and work ethic he has. John Schneider, the team’s general manager, gave a glowing review of Milroe to Rich Eisen of NFL Network — calling Milroe ‘special.’

“He’s got some of those wows and woes and then all of a sudden he takes off, scoring from 50, 60, 70 yards and running 22 MPH,” Schneider said. “He’s been great so far, everyone RAVED about his work ethic and his personality.”

He looked good in rookie minicamp, but it would still be in Seattle’s best interest to not throw Milroe out there too early. Let him learn from Sam Darnold and Drew Lock for a while, and then he can take over when he is truly ready. His skill set provided some “wow” moments at Alabama, yet it is going to entertaining to watch how Milroe processes in the NFL.
