Alabama QB Ty Simpson invited to participate at Manning Passing Academy

He has been patient, but has his time finally come to be the starting quarterback for the University of Alabama football program?

Ty Simpson, a native of Martin, Tenn., enters his fourth year with the Crimson Tide in the fall.

He arrived on campus in 2022 as a talented five-star from Westview High School. Simpson brought a lively arm — that possesses accuracy too — from the high school ranks, but he also has underrated athleticism as someone who can extend plays from the pocket. He received some opportunities in his career, including a moment in 2023 replacing Tyler Buchner in a difficult matchup for the Tide versus South Florida. Simpson was not ready for the moment; however, it made him better prepared as a signal-caller. He completed five of nine passes for 73 yards — aiding Alabama to score 17 unanswered points in a 17-3 victory over the Bulls.

Simpson continued to be a great teammate in 2024 as the backup to Jalen Milroe, yet he made several plays in spring practice that have most believing he will be the starting in Kalen DeBoer’s second year as head coach. He recorded touchdown passes in multiple scrimmages, showing the maturity to operate Ryan Grubb’s aggressive offense.

Simpson has recently been invited to the Manning Passing Academy, according to Ryan Folwer.

The event that featured college and NFL football royalty — Archie Manning, Peyton Manning, and Eli Manning — is scheduled from June 25-29 in Louisiana.

Several Alabama quarterback, including AJ McCarron, Bryce Young, Jalen Milroe, and Jalen Hurts, have attended the academy and positive things came from it. McCarron won back-to-back national championships as a starter in 2011 and 2012. Young became the first quarterback in Tide history to win the Heisman Trophy, capturing the honor in 2021. Hurts assisted Alabama to two Southeastern Conference Championships (2016, 2018) and a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2017. Milroe guided Alabama to an SEC Championship in 2023.

Alabama fans are excited to see what Simpson becomes this season.

He looks to lead the program back to the CFP after it missed out in 2024.
